RAGGING -- HOW TO CONTROL

Ragging has reached a menacing proportion. The following are a few suggestions: The Government may examine and adopt if found feasible:

a)State government may publish the list of campuses where ragging has taken place. Raggers’ and victims’ photographs, action taken against the raggers, campus authorities may be given in such lists. Ranking for rag history of the colleges also should be given. These lists are to be released at the time of admissions/counselling .Those who rank colleges on qualitative parameters should give negative weightage for rag history
b) Campuses in their prospectus should furnish rag history ; rag ranking of the respective campuses, and actions initiated to curb ragging. Posters containing such information with photographs of raggers should be put up in the campuses.

Hidden cameras should be installed in all the corridors of hostels and movement of the inmates into and out of the hostel rooms has to be recorded. Such cameras need to be installed in probable rag spots like canteens, play rooms also.
c) Campuses may engage all the students in cultural activities, inter college meets etc particularly during rag seasons.
d) Confidential Rag roasters may be maintained by the campuses containing probable raggers and vulnerable;Campus authorities should have have a close watch on those figured in such roasters.
e)Every campus should take the help of a psychologist who may take counselling sessions in the beginning of the academic year.

I hope these measures would go a long way in curbing the wild practice.
